The Gilbert family made their first wine in 1847 and have continued growing wine grapes ever since. Today winemaker Mark Gilbert produces small, single vineyard wines from three diverse vineyards in Southern Australia. All vines are hand-pruned and the fruit selectively picked and whole bunch-pressed to nurture the wines from grape to glass. Australia’s premiere wine critic James Halliday has repeatedly recognised Karrawatta as a five-star winery, most recently in his 2020 Australian Wine Companion, which acknowledges “outstanding wineries producing wines of very high quality”.
